Inclusion is a JPL core value, and fostering a diverse and equitable work environment is mission-critical for the Lab. Just as we are fearless in doing the impossible, we must also be fearless in taking action, respecting our employees' experiences, creating an inclusive environment where differing perspectives are valued and respected, and being a catalyst for positive change.

Diverse community
We believe in having a workforce representative of the U.S. labor force, and pushing ourselves to seek out connections across difference to build broad networks. We identify talent, partners, and subcontractors from as broad a pool of options as possible.

Equitable opportunity
We leverage data and research-backed solutions to increase the equity of our systems and processes. We ensure that every employee has what they need to reach their full potential, and we continuously evaluate and examine our policies and practices to ensure that unconscious bias is not inadvertently embedded.

Accessible workplace
Employees with disabilities are seen as valued members of the JPL community, and their voices are included in accessibility-related decisions. Disabled colleagues have the same opportunities and access to tools as a person without a disability.

Trust and accountability
We cultivate a culture of mutual trust and accountability between our employees and our leaders through transparency in our policies, our decision-making, and in our demographic data.  We ensure that our employees trust our systems to report when issues arise, and do not fear reprisal.

Communities of Inclusion  
JPL is home to several communities that support inclusion at the Lab—Employee Resource Groups, Affinity Groups, working groups, org-specific DEIA committees, and so on. Collectively, we refer to these organizations as "Communities of Inclusion." The Office of Inclusion advocates for the Employee Resource Groups by ensuring the support of JPL and its leadership and providing resources to support their constituent populations.

Chief Inclusion Officer, Neela Rajendra
JPL’s first Chief Inclusion Officer combines her experiences in higher education and the corporate sector together with her expertise in designing high-impact methods to create scalable interventions to advance DEI across JPL.

Employee Resource Groups
Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are employee-led groups that aim to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace while providing visibility and representation across the Lab. ERGs at JPL are based on communities of underrepresented identities or experiences relevant to the Lab and its mission, business objectives, and workforce.

Affinity Groups
Affinity Groups (AGs) are communities of practice that don't specifically focus on historically excluded populations.

Interest Groups & Clubs  
While not strictly under the umbrella of the Office of Inclusion, interest groups and clubs are a great way to feel included at JPL. Like ERGs and AGs, clubs and interest groups are open for anyone at JPL to join.
