Inclusion drives innovation

Inclusion is a JPL core value, and fostering a diverse and equitable work environment is mission-critical for the Lab. Just as we are fearless in doing the impossible, we must also be fearless in taking action, respecting our employees' experiences, creating an inclusive environment where differing perspectives are valued and respected, and being a catalyst for positive change.

Diverse community

We believe in having a workforce representative of the U.S. labor force, and pushing ourselves to seek out connections across difference to build broad networks. We identify talent, partners, and subcontractors from as broad a pool of options as possible.

Equitable opportunity

We leverage data and research-backed solutions to increase the equity of our systems and processes. We ensure that every employee has what they need to reach their full potential, and we continuously evaluate and examine our policies and practices to ensure that unconscious bias is not inadvertently embedded.

Accessible workplace

Employees with disabilities are seen as valued members of the JPL community, and their voices are included in accessibility-related decisions. Disabled colleagues have the same opportunities and access to tools as a person without a disability.

Trust and accountability

We cultivate a culture of mutual trust and accountability between our employees and our leaders through transparency in our policies, our decision-making, and in our demographic data.  We ensure that our employees trust our systems to report when issues arise, and do not fear reprisal.

Land acknowledgment

JPL is located on the traditional lands of the Tongva peoples, specifically the Hahamog’na band. These lands, Tovaangar, or the Los Angeles basin, continue to be the homelands of the Kizh (Pronounced Keech) Gabrieleño Band Of Mission Indians and other Indigenous peoples of the region. With this acknowledgment, we affirm and preserve Indigenous sovereignty, and pay our respects to all our relations, past, present, and future. We recognize our past and commit to creating a future where Indigenous voices are honored.

We have big aspirations, driven by our values

Bold

We are courageous explorers, driven by our conviction to take informed risks and expand the edge of possibility. We build and manage complex missions designed to tackle the most challenging scientific questions and address global challenges. We are motivated by building first-of-a-kind systems and by knowing that out discoveries will advance knowledge and drive positive change.

Inclusive

We create a collaborative culture where our teams, colleagues, and partners feel valued and empowered to innovate. We appreciate excellence, expertise, and experience across all disciplines. We embrace difference with respect and curiosity. We create environments where teams can achieve things not thought possible. We take pride in the breadth of our reach, engagement, and impact.
